Application Deadline: Sunday, May 12, 2024
The «Abai-Verne» Scholarship Program is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic.
The program announces a competition for scholarships with no restriction on the choice of specialties. A total of 45 scholarships are available for 2-year master's students from Kazakhstani universities and 5 scholarships for doctoral candidates with joint supervision.
Eligibility for Master's Scholarships:
- Kazakhstani citizenship;
- No age restrictions;
- Enrollment in the second year of a master’s program at a Kazakhstani university for the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year;
- Invitation or confirmation of admission to a French university for Master 1 or Master 2;
- Enrollment in a dual-degree program is an advantage.
Eligibility for Doctoral Scholarships:
- Kazakhstani citizenship.
- No age restrictions.
- Enrollment in the first year of a doctoral program at a Kazakhstani university for the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year with dissertation preparation under joint scientific supervision.
- Invitation or confirmation of admission to a French university for the first year of the doctoral program.
Financial Conditions of the Program:
Scholars of the «Abai-Verne» Program will receive:
- A monthly living allowance of 800 euros for 10 months from September to June for master’s students, and 1500 euros monthly for 6 months per year for 3 years for doctoral candidates (based on the National Bank of Kazakhstan exchange rate at the time of the university’s order).
- French government social scholarship BCS, which includes:
- Free long-term student visa to France (note: non-scholarship students pay 99 euros for the visa).
- Exemption from registration fees (mandatory at most French public universities). For information: registration fees for master's programs for international students are 3770 euros per year, for doctoral programs 380 euros per year. Additional costs may vary depending on the institution and diploma.
- Access to student housing through CROUS (note: rent in state university dormitories ranges from 300 to 600 euros per month, and in the private sector from 800 to 1000 euros per month).
- Discounted meals (one-euro meals) at student cafeterias.
- Free additional health insurance (note: 300 euros for non-scholarship students).
- Support from Campus France.
Note:
- International transportation costs are to be covered by the students themselves.
- The «Abai-Verne» Master-1 scholarship is granted for one academic year (September 2024 to June 2025). If a student wishes to continue with Master-2, they will need to cover their own tuition, living, and food expenses (note: they can apply to the French Embassy for a French government social scholarship BCS or seek a paid internship/job in France).
- The «Abai-Verne» scholarship status exempts students from paying registration fees (frais d’inscription) at public French universities but does not cover tuition fees (frais de formation). If a student enrolls in a paid program, they must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover their studies.
- Students are required to attend all classes; otherwise, the scholarship payments will be terminated.
- If a student discontinues their studies during the academic year at their own initiative (except in cases of force majeure), they must return all previously disbursed funds.
