Ramiz Zulkharnay, a graduate of the «Bolashak» program, received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bristol in the UK.
It is noteworthy that in 2021, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bristol ranked #1 in the UK for Chemistry research (THE analysis of REF 2021).
In 2023, Ramiz successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, and his work was nominated by an external expert for the «Best Doctoral Thesis» award for the 2022-2023 academic year. Considering that only about 20 PhD candidates are nominated annually from the entire university, this highlights the outstanding quality of Ramiz's dissertation.
The topic of his doctoral dissertation is «Investigation of Scandium Electron Emission on Diamond for Thermoelectric Solar Energy Generation Devices». The main goal of this research is to create a reliable diamond surface with low work function and negative electron affinity, suitable for converting solar energy into electricity.
During his doctoral studies, Ramiz actively participated in international scientific conferences, presenting the results of his research. Notably, in 2021, he received the top prize for «Best Poster Presentation» at the international conference (SBDD XXV) in Belgium. To date, Ramiz has published 8 scientific articles from his dissertation in high-impact journals. Additionally, five more articles are in preparation: two based on the experimental chapters of his doctoral dissertation, two resulting from Ramiz's collaboration with a professor from the Danish University, and a review article for the prestigious journal Philosophical Transactions A (the Royal Society). The review focuses on practical experiences with synthetic diamond, covering diamonds from 1980 (the year the first synthetic diamond was obtained) to the present day.
