BOLASHAK SCHOLAR RAKHAT-BI ABDYSSAGIN RECEIVES THE SILVER MEDAL FROM THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF MUSICIANS IN LONDON

Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin, a recipient of the Bolashak program scholarship, has become the first Kazakhstani to be awarded the prestigious Silver Medal of 2024 by the Worshipful Company of Musicians in London—one of the oldest and most significant honors in the United Kingdom. The ceremonial presentation took place in mid-November in the British capital.

Established in 1889, the Silver Medal is awarded annually to the most outstanding young musicians selected from students of the UK’s leading conservatories.

The year 2024 has been a landmark in Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin’s artistic career. In February, he presented the world premiere of his opera The Bruce in four cathedrals across the UK. The opera is a central element of Rakhat-Bi’s doctoral research at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of St Andrews under the Bolashak program.

Another notable achievement this year was the publication of Rakhat-Bi’s book Quantum Mechanics and Avant-Garde Music by the prestigious German publisher Springer. This unique study at the intersection of physics and experimental music has garnered widespread recognition in scientific and musical circles. The author held presentations of the book at leading universities in the Netherlands and Germany, including Heidelberg and Amsterdam. Additionally, the book is already available on the shelves of Oxford’s flagship bookstore, one of the most renowned and largest bookstores in the UK.

“I am delighted to demonstrate the profound connection between mathematics, physics, and music. It serves as inspiration for new ideas in both art and science,” the composer noted during a presentation.

Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin has composed over 150 musical works that have been performed in renowned concert halls across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
