Composer and pianist Rakhat-Bi Abdysagin, who is pursuing a doctorate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the Bolashaq program, has been nominated for one of the United Kingdom's oldest awards — the esteemed Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians!
The award ceremony will take place on November 13, 2024, in London and promises to be a landmark event for the music community!
The Worshipful Company of Musicians is one of the oldest guilds, founded in 1350. Originally established as a guild for musicians and later evolving into an influential cultural organization, it revived its musical mission at the end of the 19th century and today actively supports young musicians and music education.
The “Silver Medal” is the oldest and only award presented by the Company, dating back to 1889. This award is granted to the most outstanding young musician selected from students at the leading conservatories of the United Kingdom. Being nominated for this medal is a significant honor afforded only to select musical institutions in the UK.
Earlier this year, on February 17, Rakhat-Bi premiered his opera “The Bruce” at Glasgow Cathedral. This world premiere, dedicated to King Robert I of Scotland and based on John Barbour’s epic poem “The Bruce,” is an integral part of his doctoral research. The opera highlights the cultural connections between the past and the future.
We wish Rakhat-Bi the best of luck and eagerly await the results of the award ceremony!
