Today, on September 2, 2024, a meeting took place between Aliya Ospanova, Chairman of the Board of JSC «Center for International Programs» (CIP), and a delegation from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), led by the General Secretary of DAAD, Dr. Kai Sicks, along with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan, Monika Iversen. The delegation also included other leading representatives of the educational and scientific communities of Germany.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany in the areas of academic exchanges, scientific research, and scholarship programs.
Aliya Ospanova, Chairwoman of the Board of JSC «Center for International Programs», presented the work of the Center in administering the Bolashak program, scientific internships, and the "Study in Kazakhstan" scholarship program, emphasizing the importance of the ongoing cooperation with DAAD:
«Collaboration with DAAD allows our scholars to receive high-quality education and participate in cutting-edge scientific research at leading universities in Germany. In his address to the nation, our head of state highlighted the task of training and retraining industry specialists essential for our country's economy. In this regard, we pay particular attention to the preparation of technical specialists. We know that German universities excel in engineering, technology, mechanical engineering, and technical specialties in general. This not only contributes to the development of our human resources but also strengthens scientific and educational ties between our countries».
Dr. Kai Sicks, General Secretary of the German Academic Exchange Service, emphasized the importance of joint efforts in supporting academic mobility and exchange:
«Working with the Center for International Programs opens up significant opportunities for the further development of academic cooperation between our countries. We are pleased to see how Kazakhstani students and researchers successfully integrate into the educational and scientific communities of Germany, and we look forward to continuing this fruitful partnership».
German universities are leaders in engineering and technology, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and the automotive industry. In addition, German universities offer advanced programs in natural sciences, such as physics, chemistry, and biology. Germany is also renowned for its high level of scientific research, particularly in the fields of medicine and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, universities actively cooperate with industry, providing practice-oriented education and innovation.
As of today, 56 Kazakhstani scholars are studying and undergoing internships in Germany through the Bolashak program, including 11 pursuing master's degrees, 36 undergoing scientific internships, and 9 participating in professional internships.
It should be noted that there are quota categories for applicants in engineering and medical fields, as well as for candidates from rural areas.
The parties agreed to expand academic exchange programs and scientific internships. It was also decided to update the list of German universities in the Bolashak program, with a focus on universities strong in engineering and innovation. The parties also discussed organizing a joint university exhibition.
