Aliya Ospanova, the Chairwoman of the Board of JSC «Center for International Programs», met with the staff of the National Center for Biotechnology (NCB) in Astana, where she presented the Center's educational programs and discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of biotechnology.
Aliya Ospanova elaborated on key programs such as the presidential scholarship «Bolashak», the «500 visiting scholars» scientific internships, intergovernmental grants, and the scholarship program «Study in Kazakhstan». She emphasized the importance of international cooperation in strengthening Kazakhstan's scientific potential:
«The National Center for Biotechnology plays a critically important role in the development of science and technology in Kazakhstan. We see tremendous potential in integrating our educational programs with the cutting-edge scientific research conducted at the Center. This cooperation will open new horizons for Kazakhstani scientists and specialists».
It is worth noting that currently, 189 Kazakhstani students specializing in «medicine» and «biology» are studying and interning at leading scientific organizations around the world, and about 1,000 people have already received education in these fields since the program's inception.
Acting General Director of the NCB, Vyacheslav Borisovich Ogai, also highlighted the importance of this cooperation, stating:
«It is extremely important for us to establish close ties with leading educational and scientific institutions. Joint projects with the Center for International Programs will not only strengthen our scientific potential but also bring our researchers' developments to the international level».
The National Center for Biotechnology is a leader in advanced scientific developments, such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test system for diagnosing COVID-19 and the project to create a vaccine against the coronavirus, underscoring the high level of scientific research in Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their readiness to continue developing the partnership and work together on projects that will strengthen Kazakhstan's position in biotechnology on the international stage. In particular, the Center for International Programs will facilitate the invitation process for overseas research internships.
It is also worth noting that the «Bolashak» scholarship includes quota categories that cover medical professionals. Applicants from these categories can undergo free language training and are not required to be admitted to a foreign university at the time of application. They may choose an educational institution after being awarded the scholarship.
