INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR-FORUM ON DIASPORAS

"The Changing Role of Diasporas and Experience for Kazakhstan: Building Effective Communications for Sustainable Economic and Socio-Cultural Impact"

Today the first day of the Forum in Almaty has come to an end. The need to deepen understanding of Kazakhstan's diaspora policy and the complexities of the migration journey among both diaspora and Kazakhstani citizens is one of the main prerequisites leading to filling knowledge gaps, reducing misinformation and building mutual trust, which will ultimately lead to improved diaspora engagement and development of the country.

The workshop consisted of two panel sessions:

  • "The Role of Diaspora and Compatriots in Finance, Business and Information Technology"

  • "Science, education and cultural interaction" with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of CIC, Olzhas Sakenov together with other experts in the field such as Bauyrzhan Baglay, Assistant of the Institute of Diplomacy of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, IOM national expert, Abzal Saparbekuly, President of NAO "Otandastar Fund" and others.

The aim of the workshop was to develop key recommendations and feedback on the draft strategy to promote a whole-of-government approach to the communication strategy and contribute to the achievement of SDG 19, which is to create conditions for the full contribution of migrants and diasporas to sustainable development in all countries.

And did you know that notable examples from other countries provide valuable insights into effective diaspora engagement. For example, migrants and the diaspora in Kyrgyzstan have demonstrated the ability to mobilize quickly in crisis situations, displaying "migrant solidarity" and a willingness to develop innovative ideas for Kyrgyzstan's development.

Such an example demonstrates a wide range of strategies for effective interaction with diasporas, allowing us to identify directions for the development of Kazakhstan's own diaspora policy. At the same time, there is a need for more in-depth study of international experience applicable to Kazakhstan.
