Kazakh Culture Day at the University of Illinois

Kazakh Culture Day was celebrated extensively at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, one of the prestigious higher education institutions in the USA. In the QS ranking, the university holds the 64th position, and in the THE ranking, it is 42nd. The event was organized by scholars of the «Bolashak» program and the «500 visiting scholars» scientific internships studying at this university.

The event was attended by faculty and students from twenty countries around the world. Daulat Tursynbay, a master's student of the Economics faculty, and Nurila Kambar, a doctoral student of the Materials Science and Engineering faculty, introduced their international colleagues to Kazakh culture and traditions. They provided an overview of Kazakhstan, its spiritual and cultural values rooted in the nomadic way of life, giving the participants a deep understanding of Kazakh identity.

Another highlight of the event was the performance of traditional melodies on the dombra. Akylbek Yelshubayev and other Kazakh children and students not only performed kyui but also shared the history and significance of these musical pieces. The traditional dance "Kamazhai," performed by Aisha Aubakir and Melissa Amansupieva, also impressed the international guests.

Following the performances, guests were invited to a Kazakh feast. The table was richly set with a variety of national dishes. International guests tasted Nauryz koze and kuyrdak, and even learned the Kazakh word «Rakhmet» (Thank you).

Overall, Kazakh Culture Day at the University of Illinois was not only a celebration but also an educational platform through which the international academic community became acquainted with the culture and traditions of Kazakhstan. This event vividly and meaningfully showcased the value and richness of Kazakh culture, enhancing its understanding and recognition abroad.
