FROM OXFORD TO KAZAKHSTAN: HOW COMPETITION LAW KNOWLEDGE IS CHANGING THE ECONOMY

Aday Nygmanov, an employee of the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition of the Republic of Kazakhstan, shared his story about studying at the University of Oxford under the Bolashak program. At Oxford's Centre for Competition Law & Policy, he is studying competition law, a key area that ensures sustainable growth and economic development.

President K. Tokayev of Kazakhstan has always emphasized the importance of fostering healthy competition in his Addresses to the Nation. Fair competition is one of the fundamental principles on which the country's new economic course should be based. For Aday, this became the main motivation for deepening his study of competition law.

«At the University of Oxford, with its high standards of education and scientific research, I had an exceptional opportunity to learn from the best professors in the field of competition law, such as Ariel Ezrachi, Sir John Vickers, Aidan Robertson, and Paul Craig», shares the scholarship recipient.

Active participation in conferences and seminars allows him to stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in the field of competition development. Aday is particularly interested in regulating digital markets, which play a key role in the modern economy. He emphasizes that effective regulation helps prevent monopolization, protect users' rights and data, stimulate the development of new technologies, and ensure fair conditions for all market participants.

«The practical significance of this training for Kazakhstan cannot be overstated. European countries have accumulated significant experience in solving complex issues related to maintaining fair competition and regulating digital platforms. This experience is of immense value for Kazakhstan and can help adapt best practices to our context», explains the Bolashak scholar.

Aday intends to apply the knowledge and experience gained at Oxford to implement advanced methods and approaches in market regulation in Kazakhstan. This will contribute to creating a more transparent and competitive economic environment, improving conditions for business and investment, enhancing consumer rights protection, and fostering an innovative climate in the country.

The Bolashak program not only provides opportunities for personal and professional growth but also makes a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan. Aday Nygmanov thanks everyone who supports him on this path: «Together, we are moving towards a common goal — creating a competitive and prosperous economy in Kazakhstan».
