Neurosurgeon Marat Sarshayev, a graduate of the Bolashak program in Neurosurgery at RMANPO in Moscow and currently practicing at the Central Clinical Hospital in Almaty, shared his harrowing experience of performing surgery during the recent earthquake, a video of which went viral on social media.
On weekends, while most people enjoy their well-deserved rest, there are professionals whose duties transcend the boundaries between work and personal life. Surgeons are among those whose commitment knows no bounds, always ready to respond to the call of duty, exemplifying the highest level of dedication and responsibility in their service.
«On weekends, most people enjoy their well-deserved rest, but for some of us, these days are no different from working days. When you're a surgeon, your phone never switches to 'Do Not Disturb' mode», says the surgeon.
During a critical moment in surgery, when the team faced a choice between ensuring the safety of the crew and saving the patient, the chief surgeon and his team made a courageous decision. Despite fear and uncertainty, they upheld their Hippocratic oath. The result was a successful surgery, underscoring the strength of teamwork and unity.
«A young mother of many children, full of hope for recovery, lay on the operating table. Everything was going according to plan, but suddenly, we were severely shaken. Fear, doubt, and determination all mixed at that moment. As the lead surgeon, I had to choose: evacuate the staff to ensure their safety or continue the operation, risking everything to save the patient's life. Each of us, despite the fear and uncertainty, chose duty and humanity. We continued to work and successfully completed the surgery, proving that our strength lies in unity», concluded Sarshayev.
We express our deepest gratitude to the surgeons for their dedication and willingness to take on life-saving decisions in critical moments.
