On October 24, 2024, a meeting was held in Astana between representatives of the Center for International Programs and Kypros Pilakoutas, Professor of Innovation in Construction, along with Senior Lecturer Maurizio Guadagnini from the University of Sheffield. During the meeting, the Center presented the programs it administers to the visiting university representatives.
Discussions centered on further collaboration under the Bolashak program and scientific internships. Special attention was given to developing partnerships in the fields of engineering research, sustainable technologies, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering, as well as the creation of joint research projects.
Kypros Pilakoutas, Professor of Innovation in Construction, noted, “Collaboration with the Center for International Programs is an important step towards strengthening scientific partnerships between our universities. We are confident that joint research and knowledge exchange will yield significant results for both students and the scientific community as a whole.”
Founded in 1905, the University of Sheffield ranks 104th in the QS World University Rankings and 2nd in the United Kingdom, according to Uni Compare 2023/24. With more than 300,000 alumni worldwide, the university continues to lead in scientific research, solidifying its position as a leader in international rankings.
Currently, more than a dozen Kazakhstani students are studying at the University of Sheffield under the Bolashak program, with over a dozen others under monitoring.
During the discussions, a plan was outlined to increase the number of program participants in engineering and scientific fields. Talks also took place regarding providing invitations under preferential categories of the Bolashak program and scientific internships.
The University of Sheffield is renowned for its campus, home to over 10,000 trees, and its Student Union, recognized as the best in the country for six consecutive years. Additionally, Sheffield ranks 4th in the world’s best student cities ranking (2022) and 3rd in affordability among UK student cities according to the Royal Bank of Scotland index.
The university’s Engineering Faculty includes four academic schools with more than 370 faculty members and over 6,700 students. Its research areas cover aerospace engineering, automatic control, civil construction, biomedical engineering, and robotics. The university actively advances new technologies such as hydrogen energy and digital manufacturing.
This meeting opens new prospects for Kazakhstani students and scientists, strengthening opportunities for international knowledge exchange and conducting joint research on the global stage.
